IngramSpark spine width: the real numbers
Most spine calculators treat IngramSpark like KDP. We measured IngramSpark's own calculator instead, and the numbers don't follow KDP's formula.
The short version
IngramSpark doesn't publish a spine formula. Its calculator grows the spine at different rates in different page-count ranges, so no single "inches per page" figure fits. The common advice to use 0.002252 in per page (KDP's white paper) overstates an IngramSpark White 50 spine by about 7% at 300 pages and 14% at 1,000 pages. On a 1,000-page book that's 0.285 in, enough to push spine text onto the cover.

Creme tops out at 1,050 pages on IngramSpark; White 50 goes to 1,200.
What this means for your cover
- A KDP cover file won't fit IngramSpark as is. The spine, and so the full cover width, is different.
- Don't design an IngramSpark cover from a generic spine calculator. Use IngramSpark's figure, or our estimate for planning.
- IngramSpark allows spine text from 48 pages, earlier than KDP's 80.
