IngramSpark's cover rules
IngramSpark covers need 0.125 in of bleed on every outside edge. Keep text and important art at least 0.125 in inside the trim and the spine folds; IngramSpark recommends 0.25 in for the best results. Spine text is allowed from 48 pages.
The spine is where most calculators go wrong: they reuse KDP's thickness per page, which makes IngramSpark spines 5–15% too wide. See the measured numbers in IngramSpark spine width.
IngramSpark places a barcode on its own template, which you can move but not resize. If you supply no barcode, leave an area at least 1.75 × 1 in on the back cover for IngramSpark to place one.

How do I calculate an IngramSpark paperback cover size?
Width = 0.125 in bleed + trim width + spine + trim width + 0.125 in bleed; height = trim height + 0.25 in. The spine is what varies. A 6 × 9 in book with 300 pages on Creme paper has a spine of about 0.674 in, so the cover is about 12.924 × 9.250 in.
Why is my IngramSpark spine different from KDP?
IngramSpark prints on different paper, and its spine grows at different rates in different page-count ranges. Using KDP’s 0.002252 in per page for IngramSpark White 50 makes the spine 5–15% too wide.
How exact is this calculator?
Bleed, trim and safe areas follow IngramSpark’s File Creation Guide exactly. The spine is estimated from IngramSpark’s own calculator: exact at the page counts we measured and usually within 0.001 in between them. For your final file, enter IngramSpark’s exact spine width in the optional box.
When can an IngramSpark book have spine text?
From 48 pages. Keep spine text 0.0625 in from each spine edge, or 0.03125 in if the spine is narrower than 0.35 in.
